TrueSight Privacy Policy

Analyzing media, not people. Our **privacy-first** approach to deepfake and AI content detection.

Last updated: November 2025

1. Overview

TrueSight is a browser extension and web-based link scanner that estimates whether online videos and other media are likely human-made or AI-generated (including deepfakes and synthetic content). We designed TrueSight with a privacy-first approach: we want to analyze the content you choose to scan, not who you are.

This policy applies to the TrueSight Chrome extension and the quick link scanner on tsdetect.com.

2. What TrueSight processes locally (on your device)

To analyze a video or link you choose to scan, TrueSight temporarily processes, on your device:

  • Frames captured from the currently visible video player.
  • Publicly visible metadata (title, description, tags, timestamps, channel name).
  • Embed or page-level context related to the video (e.g., “shorts”, “reel”, or “story”).

This information is assembled into a request sent securely to our backend for analysis. We do not read your full browsing history or access private messages or content outside the video/page you chose to scan.

3. Data Sent to TrueSight Servers

When you run a scan, the extension or link scanner sends a structured request to a TrueSight backend. This may include:

  • The scanned URL or a hashed/normalized representation of the media location.
  • Selected video frames or thumbnails captured from the visible player.
  • Relevant public metadata about the content.
  • Basic technical details needed to run the detection model (e.g., scan mode or frame count).

We do not use these payloads to train publicly available models.

Data is used only to generate the detection result and to monitor system health, abuse, and aggregate usage.

4. What we do not collect

TrueSight is intentionally narrow in what it processes. We do not:

  • Collect your name, address, phone number, or government IDs.
  • Collect your browsing history across sites.
  • Sell or rent your data to third parties.
  • Use the content you scan to train any public AI model.

The extension may store a small amount of information in the browser’s local storage or sync storage (e.g., free scan counters, license status, and basic preferences). This data stays in your browser unless you clear it or uninstall the extension.

5. Link scanner on tsdetect.com

When you use the quick link scanner on tsdetect.com, we process:

  • The URL you paste into the scanner.
  • Public metadata we can retrieve about that URL or video.
  • Diagnostic information if a scan fails (e.g., error codes or timeouts).

The browser may store a local counter of free link scans used to enforce limits. This counter is stored in your browser's local storage and can be cleared by deleting site data for tsdetect.com.

6. Analytics & Logs

We collect high-level, **aggregate analytics** to understand usage and improve reliability. This includes:

  • Counts of scans by mode (metadata vs frame-based).
  • Counts of verdict categories (likely real / likely AI / unclear).
  • Basic technical metrics (e.g., response times, error rates).

Logs are kept for debugging, abuse monitoring, and service improvement. We minimize retention and avoid storing unnecessary personal information.

7. Payments & Licensing

Paid plans and license keys are processed by **Gumroad** or other third-party payment providers. We do not store your full payment card details on our own servers.

We may store: a license key/token and limited metadata to validate and enforce usage limits.

For billing questions, contact us or reply to your Gumroad receipt email. See the Support page for details.

8. Cookies & Browser Storage

Core TrueSight functionality does not depend on tracking cookies. We may use:

  • Local storage to remember settings (e.g., free scan counts or license status).
  • Analytics cookies on tsdetect.com to understand website usage, if enabled.

You can clear this data via your browser settings. Blocking local storage may affect features like remembering limits.

9. Data Retention

We keep data only as long as necessary to provide the service, monitor abuse, and comply with legal obligations.

  • Scan payloads are processed and then discarded after analysis or a short diagnostic window.
  • Aggregated metrics and anonymized statistics may be retained longer.
  • Billing records are kept as required by payment providers and applicable laws.

10. Your Choices

You have control over how TrueSight interacts with your browsing:

  • You choose which videos or pages to scan.
  • You can disable or uninstall the extension at any time.
  • You can clear local storage and cookies related to tsdetect.com.
  • You can decline paid features and use free modes (subject to limits).

11. Children & Sensitive Content

TrueSight is designed for adults and is not intended for use by children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

The tool may be used to scan sensitive content (e.g., harassment or explicit deepfakes). We encourage responsible use and compliance with all applicable laws.

12. Changes to this Policy

We may update this policy as TrueSight evolves. We will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page.
